Radeon R9 270X with Arch Linux and Mesa

After standing the quirks of the Catalyst for two months (its just plain BAD) i’ve decided to give the Mesa Driver a shot, because it is much tighter integrated with Linux and doesn’t fall apart after every X Server update.Currently the best option with the R9 270x (and  other newer cards aswell) is using the latest driver from git which runs at the time of writing suprising stable, and runs  Xonotic without any problems fast and fluent at Ultimate

TL;DR

Fortunately, there is a mesa-git Repository for Arch, so you don’t have to build it from aur everytime, just add this to your /etc/pacman.conf

[mesa-git]

SigLevel = Optional TrustAll

Server = http://www.pkgbuild.com/~lcarlier/$repo/$arch

Now you can proceed to install the standard packages for graphic acceleration (xf86-video-ati, ati-dri etc.) with a -git appended to their name. Positive side effect : You also get the latest trunk version of Clang/LLVM 😉
